So currently I'm rockin' a really old monitor. Like 8 years old i think, and it's just not really cutting it anymore. So I'm looking to upgrade.

I've got what I think is a pretty alright PC for modern games. i7-4770k, Msi 780 Lightning, 16gb ram, and SSD's. I'm not really looking to upgrade any time soon so I want to get a monitor that kinda goes along with my specs.

For a while I was looking at 1440p gaming but it just sounds like to much for my PC to handle. After that I was looking at nicer, gaming, 1080p monitors and couldn't really find one that I liked.

So considering my PC specs, what do you guys think that I should get?

Let me know. Thanks

1440p is too much for your setup with more demanding games, unless you don't mind dropping (maybe significantly) below 60. I would suggest getting a 120/144hz 1080p so you can play never games and so you can crank up older games and get glorious framerates. Depending on your budget you could also opt for Gsync and/or IPS.

'Alright pc' 4770k + 780 != 'alright'... You could run 1080p 144Hz easy or 1440p but not at constant 60.

I was thinking that maybe if I can get my hands on one, I would try and buy a BenQ XL2420G. Does that seem like a good investment?

Yes. I'd say if you are going to stick with your current specs for 2-3 more years it's good. If you think you might be upgrading before then, maybe go with a non gsync option and save the money for a better GPU/monitor combination down the road. You shouldn't need to upgrade your CPU/MOBO for at least that long anyway.

Do you think that there is any harm in buying a refurbished unit? It will save me a little money which would be nice.
