Just as the title, whats the big difference

390 has more vram.

 

it has the same core as the 290 basically.

They have identical chips. The difference is in binning, like the 4770k versus 4790k, except there were good coolers on some R9 290s so the thermal problems of the 4770k don't translate over. Just the binning.

 

That, and the R9 390 has 8GB of VRAM, but that's not really relevent yet. 4GB is still barely used by even the most demanding games at 1080p.

Yes, a thousand times yes. In my case the 390 was cheaper than a 290, but that's because I only buy Sapphire Radeon cards. But it was still worth the purchase of the 390 even though my 290 was only months old, it's that much better.
