Are Fallout games connected with story?

cuz if they ain't, ther's no point for me to play from begining, I'll just play 4

they are all the same right? modern skyrim

They arent really connected from what i know. I've only played 3 =]

Its a tough question but AFAIK there is certainly lore and canon in place.

 

1, 2 and NV are considered to be connected in lore and canon with 3 considered to be outside of FO canon due to the fact Obsidion had a hand in creating 1, 2 & NV while 3 was made by Bethesda.

 

That said I don't think there is any direct link between them in terms of story (outside of a few easter eggs).
