I am talking about the amd cards.

I need a computer right now, but I can use integrated graphics until amd releases their cards, OR get a 760! Maybe I can squeeze a 770, but thats it!

I can wait to play games until amd releases, and until them I will just play minecraft or something. Ohh and I am getting a 4670k.

Also if I wait i can get a higher end card since i will be saving more money

Double check everything, I am usually wrong.

You have to wait about 2 months. Are you okay with waiting that long?

I suggest waiting

Playing at low res and low quality for some time makes getting a dedicated GPU so much more exciting. In the interim period, save up for the 9970. It will be sub $600

I have been using Intel HD 4000 for ... months. D:

Wait or not, get a 7970 for neck to neck performance with the 770 for less.

I'm pretty stoked to see what AMD has to offer with these cards when they arrive.

At this point I am just hoping that the 9970 is around 250-275w TDP (preferably less), performs 5-20% better than the 780, and that the Never Settle Forever has at least 3 games I want (Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider, and Devil May Cry/Sniper Elite are my current choices). Being better at handling Crossfire (somehow) would be a major plus.

I would prefer something else to DMC/Sniper Elite. I already own Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Hitman Absolution. I do not care for either DIRT game, or Blood Dragon.

This is an age-old question. My answer would be to buy now, except for two circumstances.

1. There's something new coming out from the company in a month or two.

2. The company that you want to buy the product did release a product recently, but the competitor is also releasing a new product in the near future, which might be better.

This is a matter of preference, but those guidelines served me quite well so far.

are you a masochist or what?

Neither. I was poor (in regards to money I could spend on my PC) and now I am patient. Basically, I have been using the 3570k's iGPU since Christmas (December 2012). 6 months of those 9 were because I was too poor to have any other option. 1 was the transition in which I had to cover other things (Steam Summer Sale particularly) and this current one (August) and the next one (September) are patience and being pushed through in anticipation for the 9970 to release in October.

If I could pre-order it, I would.

Playing Sleeping dogs at 1024x800ish with minimum to low details sucks, but I fully expect to replay the whole game once I have a 9970. And finally start hacking my way through the massive library of unplayed games that are there due to the Steam Winter/Summer sales.

im sure these new cards will be a success, but why tell him to wait? a 7970 is perfectly capable and he can then wait until the next revision past 9xxx series for the incremental refresh if he wants, if AMD has one planned. If he honestly can wait, then hes a hero. Theres no way i would wait months with low end IGP, if i wanted to game tomorrow @ 1080p or higher. Hopefully the cards release on time in October, its not "too" long of a wait thankfully. But you never know with early adoption, and everyone is so optimistic about how the new flagship card should be much cheaper and better than the gtx 780 but what if they arent?? What if AMD decides to push the price a little steep for their top card that will compete with (MOST LIKELY BEAT) the gtx 780. They see Nvidia list its top end so high, how do we know the new flagship will be under 600-650 dollars? I know from a business perspective it makes sense for them to price lower to steal sales, but depending on development costs they may shoot up the price, at least for the first 6 months or so.

I am on a level playing field when it comes to team red or green, but just like the bulldozer release, or previous releases its always the usual advice of "wait a few months" "wait a bit more" etc, etc. No, im NOT saying these new GPU's will be bulldozers.... AMD's GPU's are almost always well received and supported by devs. People are always just overly optimistic about future releases, i say buy now IF you can afford a 7970, if not, then maybe wait to save your money. :) just my insight.

While I understand your reasoning, my reason for saying "wait for the 9XXX series" is simple:

  1. 7970's could very well become cheaper when it launches.
  2. More games could have been added to the Never Settle Forever series by then.
  3. He will be able to ride out any new cards for the next 3 generations roughly (depends, I know, but a good guesstimate).

i understand your reasoning as well, i dont like to flame on forums trust me :)

1. 7970 "might" become cheaper but your sure they will cut it down anymore than they have since $550ish initial release price? i saw one on amazon for 329.99

2. I thought the never settle bundle was just updated a few days ago, maybe im wrong, and it said you could save credits for future games, so moot point?

3. Yea he can ride it out a bit longer, but i still think a 7970 @1080projectors is good for another 2 gens. (HD9xxx series and its refresh.) Unless you need highest settings with all eye candy enabled.

  1. I am not "sure", but I can see it happening.
  2. It was, but it is/has not been on a set schedule to update. I do not remember it saying that, but now that I think about it that would make sense.
  3. IMO, buying the highest tiered card in a generation implies that you will want to be playing at the highest settings with all eye candy enabled at 1080p. It does not imply it at 1440p obviously, but I would expect it at 1080p now. AA is not considered in that however as I do not think it makes a noticeable difference beyond x4 at 1080p.

lol, it will feel like godsend when you get that card, but I really hope it only costs $500, then I would get it
