A week ago my Galaxy S3's screen randomly cracked while laying on my desk. The screen was fine when I took it out of my pocket and put it there. The crack was tiny slightly off centre with a dark spot in the middle sort of looking like a broken LCD. That spot has disappeared, though.

The crack has worsened every day, now with several lines coming from the original crack, along with a new crack at the top.

The original glass got cracked, so this is happening with a glass I ordered off of eBay. Could this be due to subpar application and curing of the UV glue?

Has anyone here experienced a similar issue?

I have not experienced it with phones, but I have exprienced it with a glass table.

If the glass gets a deep scratch or has air trapped inside it, then it can crack due to temperature changes.

I had a glass table in my living room at one point, and I forgot to close the window and it cracked during the night due to the drop in temperature.

The same thing could be the case here.

Tne crack then develops due to pressure being put on it.

This problem exists since smartphones exist, here an article from 2010: http://www.cnet.com/pictures/nexus-one-cracked-screen-how-did-our-google-phone-break/

You can find plenty about new phones like the iPhone 6 or the S6 too ...

Basically, a few deep scratches damage the glass and air (or even worse, water) gets inside the glass. Due to temperature changes, the screen breaks over time.

Not much you could do about it, replace the screen (https://nl.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S+III+Broken+Front+Glass+Replacement/14856) or get a new phone I guess? :/

That does make sense. There are some visible bubbles near the new crack. Appreciate the response.

That article isn't about what happened to me, the actual light-emitting part is fine. I guess that suspicious broken-LCD-like spot could have been due to the glue going wonky from a change in pressure since it has disappeared now.
