So a few months have passed with this new build and initially my 240M was working okay, the temps werent that great for a water cooler but it sufficed for most stuff at stock, I used to run the intel extreme tuning utility and all was good except temps were a bit high. Now, I ran the same utility and ONLY using this utility and full load I am starting to hear this rattling noise that goes high then low on regular intervals from the unit somewhere. Not sure why this didnt happen before, it only happens on max load. Apparently this is a common problem and can be due to air and too little coolant. Not exactly sure what to do? Right now Idle temps are around 40ish and load temps with intel extreme tuning utility are 70.

is it mounted properly? it could be the inerta from the fans rattling the rad. also for low temps try remounting on your cpu or reconfiguring case airflow

That doesn't make sense if its the inertia of the fans. I haven't opened the case for a few months now, and back then it wasnt rattling. Also back when I was building it I did remount the cooler multiple times in order to get betters temps, they did improve a bit but still it isnt good enough, so I left it. Intially when I was building the system I had mounted the cooler too tight and the system wouldnt boot(some ROG error code- about the memory traces breaking).

in that case have you tried when the rad is rattling holding it steady with your hand and does that stop it? second are you SURE that it is the rad. as for temps you might just need to pick up some ic diamond thermal compound.

I don't think the thermal compound will make that huge of a difference. Im using Arctic Silver 5 at the moment (rice grain sized shape). I'll try holding the rad. Also forgot to mention Im running a 4790k at stock and a GTX 970.

Alright. So after checking around some people say 70C for a 4.4ghz stock 4790k is pretty decent even with a 240m, Also I tilted the pc a bit and got almost no rattling as said in someother forum.

I think since the PC hasnt moved at all in a good few months air bubbles may have formed or something, Maybe that why tilting fixed it.
