So a friend of my dads wants a laptop for under 300.  She saw a Dell on Best Buy's site for 280.  My only issue with it is that it's low powered Celeron.  I found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231022

As it seems most newer laptops that aren't AMD series are like 320+.  I haven't messed with Refurbished laptops before, is it recommended?  It has 8 on it but literally NO laptops under 350 have 7 on it, but I am learning towards that one :)

Thanks

Steph

You could try to find a kabini laptop they perform slightly better then the mobile pentium and have much better graphics performance.

What is her usage scenario?

And I second the decision of a Chromebook http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-XE303C12-A01US-Chromebook-Wi-Fi-11-6-Inch/dp/B009LL9VDG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377012767&sr=8-1&keywords=chromebook

Also refurb laptops are a sensible thing to do when you are on a thight budget

-cringes- I haven't had the best of experiences with people asking for sub $400 laptops and actually being satisfied with it. Usage changes everything.

A refurbished laptop or netbook would be most suitable, depending on usage. Chromebook as well.

She's jus a browser and stuff.  I've used AMD E series and it was BAD.  The laptop she's giving to her daughter is nearly identical to that one but it was her husbands :).

If that's the case.

You could also look into an older Thinkpad. X200, for example. Or T400: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%2050010418%204018&IsNodeId=1&name=Lenovo&Order=RATING&Pagesize=20

They're solid options for basic usage. Flash/Java content may be problematic, though.
