Hi

I'm building me a new PC and wanted to hear your opinion on it, because it's weird idea and i'm not sure how well it will fit together.
I'm building mini-ITX build with components listed here (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nkHg6h ), where something might change about RAM and second storage, but main component will stay same.
Funny thing with this is that i want to build it inside 1/10 scale RC car.

I already have RC car which was stripped out of its guts and had purchased PSU and GPu, so i'm sure everything will fit into it.

What i'm worried is cooling cpu. What cpu cooler do you suggest me? I have around 6 to 7 cm of space on top of CPU? What about some small factor watercooler, because this is more closed case? I suppose that i also need some additional air flow for cooling motherboard? Hope that those aren't too noob questions for you.

Not sure if i should post this to Case modding thread.

Here are some pictures of future "case" hopefully.

That'll be difficult AF. I'm following this, it looks like quite the project!

So I've made my own miniature case before, see this link, and I am going to say that you will regret getting a high power cpu. I wouldn't put anything over an i3.

To clarify, I wanted my build to be a high end computer, but because the heat it produced even outside the case at idle I didn't complete the case. I actually got pissed off at the motherboard and threw the case and it broke. These kinds of projects are for Atom processors.

I personally wouldn't go of a Celeron/Pentium but that's just me.

there are reasons to and not to choose something.

this is a very compact computer. it NEEDS   low power and heat output

What about water-cooling cpu and putting radiators and tank outside (most likely below car)? Would that solved a bit of problem with overheating CPU?
I will make hole in roof, put small fan below it and on top 3D print some roof scope to look good, so that would cool motherboard a little bit :)

If you like i can post more build photos here and progress with this.

Good thing is if this won't work (but i really hope it will) i can still buy regular case and put it in there, if i wont burn any component before then xD

What are its dimensions? It looks even too small for an ITX board...

You know it'd be nice to have something for scale in the first image.

Sorry. Here is image for that. Yellow-black ruler is 20cm long, and that is Ipad mini. Hope it's good enough quality. PSU will go in back with little bit of cutting out tires space and moving tires to outside and 3d printing new back tire holder, GPU would go on top with with cutting out lambo roof :D

WEEK UPDATE

Hi.

Not much was done this week.

I cleaned bottom plastic of all unnecessary stuff, cut out back fenders and make holes in back so that PSU will fit in perfectly and also added hole for PSU connector where exhaust was before. Also got hand on some aluminium piece so i started working on bottom for reinforcements and also to hold things in place.

In front will come cage for 2.5" disk. Do you think i should 3d print some cage for 2 discs or just screw one down?

In back i will twist aluminium up PSU and then over it, and GPU will go on top there and then with some your help i will fit in on there  B)

Hopefully will post next update tomorrow with twisted aluminium and 3D printed PSU connector part to hold it in place.

I added pictures in the bottom. Hope there is not too much of them.  :)

All pictures of this are one this dropbox link (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dz4qsn97vkpxnxa/AADa4xJlhp5vGZErtlJV0CX3a?dl=0) so that i wont post all here.

Still waiting for other parts and also for pay-check to order all  other stuff.

  • 1 month later...

My PC is up and running without any overheating problems.

What's missing is some roof or hood spoilers to hide ventilators and front/back connectors, because i have some bad luck with ebay this time (USB 3.0 front connector was wrong and usb 3.0 cables just doesn't arrive).

So this will be last update for a while, until all thing arrive and i really finish the case.

What do you guys think, would this be something worth making and selling? I could make some other car types, not just this one.

Perhaps if some friends really like it. There are concerns with copy-rights and likenesses if you try to sell generally.

It's freaking amazing don't get me wrong, but I don't know if it is a viable business model.
