Hi all.

Was just wondering if anyone has heard anything new regarding Nvidia Shadowplay.

Like when it will be released if at all and will it really be worth using instead of FRAPS if you already have a Kepler GPU.

Personally I'm really looking forward to Shadowplay as currently recording game play is a bit of a hassle with FRAPS or Afterburner.

But whats your opinion?

Is it going to be just a another Nvidia Gimmick Or will it be a genuine selling point for Nvidia GPUs?

Hey since you are using dxtory do you know how to record h.264 with it?

I dont but im guessing you can get a codec for it, i just record on the normal dxtory video codec, at medium quality and compress it, looks good and decent file size

^There

Just put the recording settings on medium and dxtory will record just about perfect with minimal quality loss(Like, REALLY minimal, i can't tell the difference between medium recording and true quality.)

I agree, I don't think that it will be a better recording suite than for example dxtory.

But for a person with a average Gaming PC like me that can play most games at Max but when recording with FRAPS needs to start looking at lowering Graphics settings to maintain acceptably high FPS.

Its more the Hardware Accelerated part that I'm interested in as Im hoping that with the H.264 encoder built in Kepler GPUs Id be able to re-leave sum load from my PC when recording so I wont need to lower Graphics settings while recording.

I'm going to continue with FRAPS, I have a 2tb drive for recording to so the biggest issue with FRAPS I just laugh off. I like being able to have super high quality, which you may also get with ShadowPlay, I like having an unlimited recording length. I like having variable frame rates for capture... I'll still use FRAPS

My opinion on Shadowplay- I think it's a really good idea, leveraging the hardware of the GPU to have multiple purposes potentially giving you a $200 capture card for free, as long as you have a supported GPU. I don't think it will ab anywhere near as good as people think it will be though, which is the reason I believe it is taking nVidida so long to release it. I don't like the limitations they've said will be in place such as the frame rate limit for capture and the 20 minute limit. Everything I record lasts for at least 20 minutes, maybe up to a few hours. I also like the increased frame rate that is available with FRAPS to make my editing life easier

Selling point?- Yes. It definitely will be. However, I think I'll be moving to AMD next graphics upgrade I get. Mainly due to the fact that the next series of cards seem to be insanely powerful for their price and, if the rumors are true, I could be able to get effectively 2 titans for the price of one. But yes, nVidia will use this as a selling point and it might even increase their sales....

Yeah but the point in shadowplay is mostly recording moments you might miss with fraps. Also some people dont have a spare 2tb drive. Furthermore the limitations will hopefully go away in the next update+livestreaming is coming. The reason why not all gpus support it is because fermi (500 series +400) doesnt have a h.264 encoder.

So it will be going down the route of recording both before and after? As in, some footage before and some footage after you hit record? I thought that was speculation still

I record on EVGA precision and Afterburner i set it to highest quality / no compression and I barely lose any performance if shadow-play offers higher quality I suppose that would sway me over.

I prefer Afterburner with built-in RTV codec, good quality, less performance hit and better compression over DXTory codec.
