Hey Linus Tech Tips,

I'm looking to upgrade my PC's graphical capabilities. While my trusty 270X has served me well it has its limitations and I'd like to be able to run games like Witcher 3 and Farcry 4 at high settings with a solid 60 FPS. I've thought about getting a second 270X or maybe just getting a new card. What are your thoughts?

What is your budget?

I'd be willing to spend a good chunk of cash to get a nice GPU that would give me high performance. What's the best out there as of now?

I'd vote for a second 270X, It will outperform most anything out there when both cards are used while costing you the least.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

980 ti but its probably overkill for 60 fps if youre only doing 1080p

i would go with a 970/390 for 1080p

If you still can get 290x it still a good deal or 390, if you can spend money for 980ti/fury it great cards. It much better for one single card because some crossfire/sli profile is not that good. Linus always say it better to have one card

To be fact 980ti is not really overkill... some games still cant run max on 1080p.

Maybe because your cpu is knocking almost 15ps off games that actually need a 980ti for 1080p...

How much of a boost would a 390X give in graphical power? Would it be a huge ass upgrade and be able to max out games? Also, I have a Core i7 4770K which I assume will last me for a good while. Is this correct?

390/390X or even a 980 would be a huge increase for you over a 270X. Currently the 390 is a better bang-for-buck card than a 390X, but there's deals out there. Your 4770K is going to last a really long time, excellent CPU to have.

mate, it im ssaying from experience from my friend build with 5820k with hybrid 980ti. My build is only running 10-20% slower compare to his.

Makes sense. But which games exactly? And AA does not count if it's above 2xMSAA

I would get 390x/390 because from diretx 12 benchmark you could see clear win for performance/dollar

I'll probably end up getting a 390X since I like to experiment with the clock speeds on my GPU core and see how high I can get it without any problems with temperature or games and it seems like the best option right now. Would it allow me to run a game like Farcry 4 or Witcher 3 at high settings with a solid 60 FPS?

My 970 let's me run F4 and Witcher 3 at Ultra settings. A 390x is more powerful than a 970.

You'll be able to happily max out games for quite some time I think, especially with that 8Gb of VRAM backing it up.

I have 8 GB of RAM currently in my rig. Should I think about upgrading that at all?
