I have an i5-3570k and using a CM hyper evo 212 to cool it. I have a slight OC, nothing major. But my idle temps are about 50c. Is that too high? Maybe I am just over thinking it!

Load is around 70-80 IIRC. I'd have to check when I get home. Just seems high on both.

Reapply thermal paste because it shouldn't be running that hot under load.

ivy bridge CPUs are notoriously hot, idle and load.

Is it declocking when idle..?

If not thats likely the cause.

Open CPU-Z and it should show you the realtime frequency currently in use, updated every second or two.

Declocking on idle, it should be in the 30-45*c range temp wise (depending on ambient temps, hence that wide range)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I did that. I am having trouble sitting the cooler completely on the cpu. No idea why! I usually have no issues.

I didn't change the voltage. I think I have it at a stable 3.9 OC.

Why would you even do that.... SpeedStep is pointless on everything other than laptops, and some smaller form factor desktops. And even then, voltages impact temps more than frequency does, generally speaking.

Your PC power settings may have been set to Performance Mode, and that disables Intel QuickStep which downclocks your CPU when idle.

I know it doesn't declock. IS there a setting in the bios to turn that on?

Yep, but the name can vary depending on motherboard maker, usually the common term is Speedstep (if found, enable it and go back to windows)

Usually in the 'Advanced" section of the bios, under CPU settings, or maybe the CPU settings without needing to go to advanced.

Peruse through your bios, it will be there somewhere, if your lost, your manual would tell you, if you don't have it, you can get it online at the motherboard support webpage.

Win7 has finer control of idle frequencies too, in Advanced Power settings, But thats missing in W8 onwards I think and it is 0% min anyway,......In Win7 setting the min-cpu to 0% = 800mhz idle, if I set 60% it declocks to 2.5Ghz, which is where I leave it, and of course the max-cpu frequency should be 100%.

Your PC power settings may have been set to Performance Mode, and that disables Intel QuickStep which downclocks your CPU when idle.

Mine is on High Performance, and declocks fine, it does not disable Speedstep.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Even load seems toasty. I did have to replace the CM stock fan with a random fan from bestbuy after it stopped working. I plan on getting better fans for it. Which I hope will help. Or I will get a nhd-14 for $75.

It's about right IMO, Hyper coolers are great, but not the best, and with a single fan, depending on your fan curve (how fast it ramps up) that could very well be normal without further tweaking.

My locked 3.9ghz i5, with the old hyper I used to have, quickly got to 71*c and further climbed to 75*c+ when heat had pooled in the case when gaming.

I fully agree, but I am in a small room myself with literally a max-operable quarter foot wide window., 50*c idle is shit in this room for prolonged uptime.

Which is why I have it enabled (half) @ 2.5ghz idle and temps stay at 40*c, not 50*c.

80C on load for ivy is normal-ish.

Adding a 2nd decent quality fan to the hyper (Push/pull) will take another 2-3*c off the top usually, but will add more fan noise with it.
