I have already compiled a list of components but was wondering if i could achive the same result for cheaper or a better rig for the same price.

1. Budget & Location
I have a budget of £1250 which comes to about US$1700. I would be prepared to go to £1300/US$1800 if it's really worth it. This does not include monitor or other peripherals

2. Aim
This is going to be a high end gaming rig with possible CAD in the future. It will also feature as my main media center. I'd also like it to run relatively quietly as my laptop at the moment is really loud and extremely irritating.

3. Monitors
I plan on running an AOC 29" 21:9 monitor with a possible addition of a 23" touchscreen in Q1 2014

4. Peripherals
If speakers can be included with slight cuts in part costs that would be great, otherwise peripherals aren't needed.

5. Why are you upgrading?
This will be the first desktop that i build, i'm really looking forward to the experience.

you don't need an i7 or 16gb of ram for gaming just go for 8gb of 1600mhz cl9 ram and a 4670k also get a samsung evo instead of the sandisk ssd also the motherboard is quite expensive everything else looks pretty good let me build something for you, here we go you could also go down the amd route and get a 8350 and 990fx board but I just went with intel on this one

It is a massive price difference i know, but I'd rather not look back and wish I'd gone for the 4770k instead. The main game i want to be playing is BF4 when it comes out

I would say buy for what you are doing now and the build I went with allowed you to get a 780 which would benefit you far more in gaming than an i7, also when is it you will be building

building it around the end of september/ mid october. Definitely looking to have it running without tweaking by the beginning of november so that includes overclocking and included time for returns

Looks good, just change the SSD to a Samsung evo, if your doing CADD then stay with a 4770k and 16gb of RAM.

Get a H100i or something similar. I would get a bigger psu so its more expandable an room for overclocking.

FX8350 is good but if he has the money he doesn't need to settle.

PC: Corsair C70 Arctic, FX 9370, Corsair H80i, Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, Corsair Vengence 16gb, Palit JetStream GTX 970, OCZ Vertex 4 128gb and Western Digital Blue 1Tb + 500gb, Antec Gamer 520w

Peripherals: Logitech G19 and SteelSeries Sensei RAW

Toshiba L50-A: i7 4700mq, 8gb, 1TB HDD, GT 740M 2gb

If I go for the 8350 what motherboard would be best? Major selling point of the hero was it's integrated audio.

Anything with the 990fx chipset.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ Stock, CPU cooler: Dark Rock 4, Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX, RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 @ 3000Mhz, GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0, SSD: Crucial P1 1TB M.2 + 2x120GB SSDs, Case: Corsair 110R, PSU: Corsair TX650M, OS: Windows 10 64-bit.

He said he might (do?) CAD, which I'm guessing is CPU intensive, so he'll benefit from the i7

'might' A 4670k would do even if he ends up doing some light rendering

That's a while from now. Plan later then. Parts and prices change frequently.
