Deciding between two GPUS

Right now I'm troubleshooting whatever or not to get an R9380 or 1 Evga GTX 960 4GB and 1 later down the road for SLI. I know that the R9380 Has better beformance then a 960. But the 960 offered 4GB memory buffer whilst the 380 offers two. The GPUs are the same price on Amazon. Would 2 960's in SLI match or even better beat the performance of a single 380. If so what would two 960's equal? My 550W PSU has the power to run both cards with 100+ W head room for the SLI.

What route should I take?

If it costs too much, the 960 isn't a bad card, just isn't good compared to the 380. Also, I wouldn't SLI them, as SLI isn't that good on lower end cards.

I looked on PCCaseGear just then.

The cheapest 380 4GB is $329

The cheapest 960 4GB is $335

 

The 960 will not use all 4GB of VRam anyway!

I would go for the 380 tbh. If you have a lower end mobo you'll be able to crossfire because you only need a 4x PCIE for the second card but, on Nvidia you'll need a 8x for the second card, Just a note.
