Drop the skylake, get an 4790k maybe?

You need a PSU.

The Kingston V300 SSD is a bad choice.  Bait and switch on the memory, from reviewers to consumers.  They are sometimes no faster than a mechanical HDD.  Look it up.

If you have not done so, look up comparisons between the GTX 970 and R9 390.

Oh crap. Forgot the PSU as well and that has to be factored in the price as well...I thought the 970 was better than the 380? I'll look at prices and performance and see if it's better to get a 380.

What do you recommend for my boot up drive then?

That'd mean no DDR4 support. The better question is, is DDR4 even worth it?

Depends on how much cheaper Haswell is.  I would rather have and i7 4790K over an i5 6500K, if the price is the same, or close.

Doubt I'd be over clocking so a non K model will also be fine.

I was conveying a concept more than particular models. =)

That looks fantastic! Just about the monitor, is that too big for 1920 by 1080? Is it worth saving a few bucks and getting perhaps a 24" model?

Do I need a cooler as well if Intel provides a stock cooler? I mean again, if there's no over clocking done, I hear the stock coolers are pretty great.

Ask questions if you got them.

Oh sorry, I also need an optical drive. My internet at home is too slow for downloading games so I need that. An external one should be fine, right? Or should I just chuck it into the computer itself?

24" is fine, 27" is fine as well.

The cooler is not for better temperatures.  You will probably get better temps.... but it is for noise at 100% fan speed.  That cheap little DeepCool cooler is well worth it to not hear a jet engine coming from your PC.

No. The nvidia card is cheaper over here.

Hey man, from NZ as well. Recently got convinced to check out R9 390, when I had a Gigabyte F3OC 970.

If you don't know already check out PC Force. I highly recommend them and can also give you 2% off if you bank transfer which might mean a bit to you idk.

Anyways: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/p/T69BK8

Could do with an extra 120mm front fan...

Sorry, kinda made it similar to my build except for your peripherals... But ask again if you want it cheaper on the cpu/mobo/ram end for a better graphics card :)

EDIT: PCForce also on clearance sale which ends today.

Maybe slightly cheaper RAM and MOBO would be nice. I'll also drop down to a nice 24" IPS 1080P panel.

Does that look good?

To save money you don't need the cpu cooler as its a non-K cpu.

Other than that you can get a case front fan for better cooling.

Give this a look tho, it doesn't use skylake:

http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/p/KncFVn

You can spend even less on the cpu if you don't want to overclock and also take out the cooler.

You can go with 2x4gb sticks of ram its up to you

You can change the motherboard if you want, I just chose what I have.

You can get a better graphics card such as 980 / 980ti
