Well your IP address could be different to theirs. Also the link doesn't work.

Well go to CMD, Type in ipconfig /all and see the IP address that you got from your router

You can assign any IP in your local subnet so long as its not used already... Dont assign Google DNS for your home devices that's a very amateur thing to do it will take longer to resolve links than if you just use your Default Gateway (Router).

No, as long as your static IP is in the right subnet, and is pointed to the right default gateway (which allows it to access other networks) then it should not effect network performace. Don't point the DNS server to google, it'll take longer to resolve domain names to IP addresses.

I just did that for the purpose of connecting two computers with a crossover cable. It was pretty easy, but it was on a local network so, if I help you it may or may not work.

Just a FYI (if you do not already know). You dont need to use crossover cables for connecting like to like devices so long as both RJ-45 ports support MDI-X technology. :)

Can't figure out how to attach pics as I'm using my phone. The problem is that my pc is not obtaining ip address automatically, I did reboot the modem but it did not work. Someone in this forum suggested to assign Static IP address. I don't know much about it. Does the auto configuration IPv4 and subnet mask shown in the CMD helps you help me?

So just to clarify, when you have the "Obtain IP Addresses automatically" option selected in your adapter properties your computer could not get online?

It was for a comtech project, so I could not really use a more efficient way anyways.
