hi im looking at componants for my first build. i am going to get into programming and i do a lot of gamming like tf2, league of legends. i also want to play crysis 3 and some new games at ultra settings. my budget is under 2000. i will overclock. can you help me decide on componants. i dont really know what the programming requires in terms of cpu power. i was looking at an asus rog maximus v formula and an intel i5 3570k. or should i wait till haswell comes out.

i also want to get a nivida shield when it comes out so im gonna need nvidia graphics

thanks for the help in advance

Is your budget in $? For the sake of it; i will assume it is. The 3570K is a good chip and will be fine for gaming and programming. Programming doesn't really require any specialist components, a decent CPU is a given - but you have one in the 3570K, if you want extra horsepower, the 3770K might also be worth looking at. In terms of motherboard, the Asus board is good - there are many boards of similar spec out there, if you've chosen that board then its fine. Will you be looking to run SLI/Crossfire? The GTX 680 from nVidia would be a solid buy, as would AMD's Radeon 7970. Case is pretty subjective - are you looking to run watercooling at all? Cooler, as previously really, do you want an All-in-one unit such as Corsairs H100i; or, would you rather settle for a good, high performance air cooler?

thank you for the response. these are the componants im looking at now

asus maximus v formula

i5 3570k

haf 932 advanced

msi gtx 660 ti pe

samsung 840 120 gb ssd

seagate barricuda 2 tb

windows 8

other than that i cant decide on ram or a psu or case fans or cooling. i would like 4x4gb ram but i dont know which kind i should go with. i would like to do water cooling but this is my first build and i am trying to keep it as cheap and simple as possible. i might end up with a h100i or h110 and do a loop later.

does this look like a solid build and can you reccomend the ram, psu, and some fans because i have no idea what is the best.

The main build looks good. If your budget is around $1500, then i would suggest you get a 680 over the 660TI. Similarly, change the SSD from the 840 to the 840PRO. In terms of PSU, a decent 650W would be than suffice - you could just as well use a 500W, but for the sake of it lets just use a 650W. I normally recommend one of These as they are really solid units; however, there are many other decent units out there aswell. RAM-wise, i would suggest any decent 1600MHz ram, Corsair, G-Skill, Samsung, Kingston, all very good and reliable RAM manufactures. For fans, if you don't mind the colour scheme, Noctua's NF12 are very well regarded, as are Corsair's SP120s. For radiator fans, you want high 'static pressure' rating as that pushes air across the dense array of radiator fins - Corsair SP120 are good for this job, aswell as other Noctua's.

Knowing where to shop can really help, too, if you don't mind getting different parts from different places. For instance, at Microcenter, if you have one close, they sell CPUs below cost as a loss leader.

Newegg 3570K @ $230 :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504

Microcenter 3770K @ $230: http://www.microcenter.com/product/388575/Core_i7_3770K_35GHz_LGA_1155_Processor

It looks like a great build but the one recommendation i would give you is to get a 670 or maybe a 680 if you can because i have a 660ti and i played the crysis 3 beta and you can barley get over 30 fps playing it maxed.
