Hey guys, I've got another issue to deal with and hope you can help me out.

 

I started dabbling in overclocks recently when I figured out that my motherboard (ASUS M599A Evo R2.0) supports these simple "1-click overclock" functions and just wanted to see what the results are. So there were two functions, one being fast, and the other extreme. On fast it overclocked my FX-8350 to 4.3 GHz which, to me, seems like just a mild overclock. So I tried extreme and obviously that took my mashiene a little longer to configurate. It would let me watch as it tried to increase the clockspeed, went to 4.4 GHz flat, tested the stability and crashed. Every single time. 

Well, "I'll take what I can get." I thought to myself. So I left that overclock on and monitored temperatures while playing some games and they seemed alright. Usually my CPU doesn't exceed 65°C under intensive load, this time it went up to 70, which I blame the room temperature for though. 

But here's the problem. Since I set that overclock up, my PC crashes frequently. Well, first it started behaving oddly, with programs not reacting as swiftly as usually down to outright crashing programs followed by the PC crashing itself. By "frequently" I mean it happens at least once every few hours. 

 

I assume that if an overclock of 300 MHz von my FX-8350 that has a base clock of 4.0 GHz and a boost-clock of 4.2 GHz crashes my PC, I've done something wrong. Is it that these "1-click overclock" things are just not good in general? Do I just happen to have a chip that doesn't overclock very well? 

 

For now, I went into the bios and went back to the 4000 MHz base clock and hope that it stops crashing. I would really want to know what I've done wrong and how to overclock it properly.

never overclock with auto overclockers, they don't ever work.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Its way better to work an OC through trial and error,than let a a code do it for you.It can work,but most of the time its unstable and can even be more damaging that a manual OC.

Its way better to work an OC through trial and error,than let a a code do it for you.It can work,but most of the time its unstable and can even be more damaging that a manual OC.

Try yourself manual. I don´t have experience with AMD but you should increase your multiplier an d get the voltage as lower as you can (stock will be good) and test it. if it crashes increase a little bit your voltage WARNING!!!! a little bit. Ans test it .... and again, and again until it not crash (The famous 24 hours test)

Before i upgraded to the i7-6700k, i had an AMD chip, it was a good little overclocker. It did take me a while before i got everything right without crashes, but just as those above me have said, auto overclockers never worked for me. I had a 3 setting autooverclocker and it was shit. I got the 1st stage fine, but the second one would crash me out. I decided to take matters into my own hands and worked on a manual overclock. Got WAY above the 3rd (most powerful) auto OC setting and it was stable!

 

So yeah, im a testament to using manual overclocking to OC
