Hi all, so for a year now I've had a PC with an AMD A8-6600K APU and I badly want to upgrade to a 390 for Christmas. The problem is the bottleneck the A8 will cause. I am fully aware I will be bottlenecked but do you think I should buy the GPU and wait untill my Birthday to Upgrade my CPU?

Just wait.  If you're buying them at a store, buying both at once may even net you some store discounts or something.

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

For the price of a 390, you should be able to get a better cpu and a lower end gpu, which will still be an upgrade from your APU. Then upgrade your GPU when you can.

In order to get a new CPU I'd need one compatible with the FM2+ socket which, to my knowledge is basically only compatible with APU's

That's true, I wasn't thinking about the FM2+ socket. It's a painful and costly upgrade that's for sure. I recently had to blow $500 to get away from my old H81 motherboard instead of upgrading my GPU. Unfortunately, it is necessary. In the long run, your Christmas present might be better spent starting a new socket. Maybe get yourself into 1151.
