so when i first built my pc i bought windows 7 with it but then i got a free key for windows 8.1 from college so dont use the windows 7 key anymore my question is can i use this key on a pc that i just built for my dad and then upgrade it to windows 10?

Those operators are pretty understanding. Just say my MB died and I reinstalled win on a replacement (Whinch is exactly what happened to me before). Or if you don't like making things up: I changed a MB and this key is not used in the old or any other machine.
