Hey guys!

I've just got myself a new CPU, Mobo and RAM set and started learning how to overclock. I've seen lots of Linus' and others' guides and thought I'd give it a go.

So I have an i5 4670k and 8GB Corsair Vengence 1866Mhz RAM with an MSI Z78-G43 (Not the best mobo in the world). I'm cooling with a H70 and stock Corsair H series fans in push/pull exhaust.

I've managed to get 4.4Ghz with 1.23v on the CPU. Temps hit 60C max with Prime95 and 75C max with IntelBurnTest.

All the guides tell me to do the dirty ASUS trick which is all default settings, clock to 4.6Ghz and slam 1.25v and see if it boots. Well, I tried that and it didn't, so I guess I have a below average CPU? 4.5Ghz w/ same volts booted but bluescreened on login. 4.4 worked, was stable, and I even managed to reduce the voltage to 1.21 and IBT worked fine. That was until I ran Prime and my system restarted. Prime runs fine on 4.4Ghz and 1.23v now but I've not yet done a full 24h test.

Do you think my CPU is capable of a good overclock (+4.4-4.5)? I guess it doesn't help I'm using the internal graphics on this chip atm either, that's until next month and I can get a new GPU ;) If so, what would I need to do to achieve it? I'm still a rookie!

Thanks!

really depends on how far you want to push it. given your temps I think 4.5 or higher is entirely possible

you need to stress test for 8-24 hours before you consider any voltage stable.

see if this helps you

Sounds like you should be able to hit 4.5-4.6 ghz with just a bit more voltage. You're perfectly fine up to 1.35-1.45v.
