i am new to the pc game and am selecting components for my first build. i am looking at the radeon R9 390 and gforce Gtx 970. which one would be better for gaming?

3: i think the 390 is better, but go look at some benchmarks, also depends if you want things like shadowplay and game stream. also most amd cards draw more power so you might need a beefyer PSU if you want a 390

If they are both the same or similar price then get the R9 390.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

R9 390, but check if you can find a R9 290X for the same price, it's more powerful than the R9 390, just make sure your PSU can support it and if your case has good airflow.
Don't get the reference-cooler version.

Nvidia has better support for Games and Gameworks. Its not only about 5 fps more or less.

Both are good but 390 is better.

And will get a nice boost with Vulkan/DX12 in 2016 games.
