Questions and Concerns on a new Build

Hatred

I am looking to build a new PC.

I originally started looking at building a new Skylake i5 6600K build. After doing some looking around, it sounds like there are many early adopter woes.

Are these stories really a common thing, and if so should I just build a i5 4690k? Last minute thought, I could possibly do an X99 build as well.

Thanks for any responses.

What "early adopter woes" are you talking about? Can you post some links? I have only seen reports of build issues common to most platforms.

What do you plan on using the rig for?

What is your budget?

Footprint?(does it need to fit in a small area or does it not matter)

Do you care about ssds?

Do you already have a rig?(if so what's in it, maybe upgrading is cheaper)

I didn't save any of the links, but some of the issues I have read about are.

Not recognizing USB's

Not recognizing Windows 10 after installation

Not recognizing SSD's

Issues with DDR4

I'll be using it mostly for gaming, and then using it for podcasting as well.

My Budget is around $1,000 +/-

Footprint doesn't matter, but I would like to get into a case with smaller dimensions than my current monstrosity. (Going from Full to Mid Tower)

I current have 1 SSD, and looking at getting another.

My current rig is:

i5 3570k

Asrock Z77 Extreme 4

16gb Corsair Vengence DDR3 RAM (speed I don't remember offhand)

Intel 120gb SSD

1Tb WD Blue HHD

1Tb WD Blue external HHD

Evga 970 GTX FTW

Corsair Evo 212

No optical drives

Most everything from that build is being given to someone in need of a PC. I'll only be keeping the video card and drives from that system.

Without links it is tough to comment on the listed issues. I will say however, that similar issues are reported with Haswell builds. Well, other than memory. Haswell memory issues tend to involvce DDR3.

Problems intrinsic to a new platform generally show up as a large number of similar reports. One or two, here and there are more likely to be issues related to a particular build - incorrect installation, missing/bad drivers, a faulty part, bad psu, poor part handling, etc.

Do you plan on overclocking it, or have no interest in the matter?

I overclock a bit, I don't get crazy trying to push the limits. I honestly haven't seen any need what so ever to overclock to the point of smoking your system. (I guess other than to say you did.)

So, with what you plan on using it for x99 is more likely then not, overkill. Both the 6600k and 4690k will serve you well and you can get them both with ddr3 and the 6600k with ddr4. As far as I see unless having ddr4 is necessary it'll probably be a little cheaper to go with the 4690k, without having much of a performance hit.

Ya I wasn't and haven't been really that interested in building an i7. For my needs it is just a useless cost increase.

Do you have any build item opinions for a system? or could you reccomend a build for both a 4690k and a 6600k?

Had enough time finish the 4690k, it made sure it had as mush ram as you did in your old one, but you could double it if you wanted and I zeroed out all the parts(or a close one to it) that you said you were keeping, ill do the 6600k later

Did you mean to use a Micro ATX board in both of those 6600k builds?

Is there any specific reason you chose a mATX mobo?

No not entirely, an atx board will still fit in that case, however if you did want to use a smaller case you may need it to be an matx board.

hmm how did you link your PCpartpicker into nice line items like that? I can't seem to get that w/o doing it indivually.

There's a little button next to the 0ermalink that has a bb on it, click that and copy what it selects.

I have a micro center about 5 minutes away, that has a better deal on some parts.

Is that Corsair case the one you use? I have never even given that one consideration, but it looks descent.
