6pin adapter for GPU?

So I ended up buying a power supply that doesn't have an 8 pin connector for the video card. No wonder it was so cheap.

I was about to take it out, sell it and grab something else, but I noticed that there are many adapters available.

 

I have a choice of paying $10 for a 6 pin connector, or $4 for a 4 pin to 8 pin connector.

 

Besides the obvious pin difference, is there any difference power output wise? I'd rather not destroy either the PSU or worse, the graphics card.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure adapters like that are fire hazards.

You're better off getting a new PSU that actually has the power connectors you need.

Sort of true. It's an older power supply apparently, and they didn't have 8 pin connectors back then.

Talked to my dad and he has apparently ran his card, heavily OC'd with one for many years.

 

Unless its for something temporary like a week of it running like that...

Are the last 2 pins actually providing power or are they just ground pins? I have no Idea what they're for o-o
