970/390

Arwanell

I currently have a 970, and it's not hard for me to switch to 390, i was even seriously thinking about that

i watched benchmarks and one is better here, the other there...

but my main concern is future proof

which will last me longer? I don't intend to change GPU for a while after this

I just want to max/high the games at 1080p

Why would you "upgrade" to something what isn't an upgrade AT ALL?

Future proof does not exist, no one knows what the future will bring.

Stay with your 970.

while a 390 is faster, It isn't worth the upgrade if you already have a 970. just keep it and save up for something that's a substantial upgrade. ;)

the difference is negligible.. if you already have the 970 going with the 390 is a waste unless you can just swap them out and it wont cost you anything

damn...

PC gaming is so expensive :|

you wouldn't beleive how many times i almost switched to PS4

400$ and you're good for 5 years (well if 720p 30fps is good....not really)

but 400$ for 5 years or 400$ each year is really a thing to think of

Well, people will yell at me but it's the case with Nvidia mainly. People who bought a 7950/7970 in 2011/2012 can still max out almost any game or at least get high settings 50-60fps without an issue whereas 680 users are having a much harder time thanks to only having 2GB of VRAM and worse-aging hardware. Thanks to AMD's mediocre drivers, each driver update gives you a decent bit of performance so their cards end up aging better.

Likely - I mean, 6-7 games currently use more than 4GB of VRAM at 1080p - won't be long before 4GB is minimum (currently 2GB is barely cutting it and 3GB is what you want)

Sell 970, buy a 390X.

that is the only "upgrade" you should do. a 390 is like 5-7% faster then the average 970.

A 390X is roughly 14-17% faster for only 100 bucks more...

well then, i can get 390 for 40€

according to this i might just do that

I'm not saying it's worth it now - like @Prysin said, 390X is a better upgrade since it will yield bigger gains than a 390.

i can get 300€ for 970, so that's 40€ for 390 or 150€ for 390x,

150€ is quite a bit since i just upgraded my CPU, and I also have to upgrade my PSU as soon as possible

I just saw CX.... - PSU first. a 390/970 with a CX is a deathwish. (figuratively speaking)

Haha, could be. Leave the 970 and get a decent PSU

get a SuperFlower 850/1000W 80+ GOLD/Platinum or Corsair RM 850/1000 first. Those are good PSU brands.

Super Flower is stellar, RM is overpriced for what it is.

Antec High Current Gamer 620M is a good option too.

i was thinking of XFX TS Series 550W

Good PSU too - but I'd suggest 650W since it offers more room for expansion, be it drives, fans, LEDs or a more powerful GPU and OCing it.
