Don't know what's overheating

Go to solution Solved by Dabombinable,

I went and downloaded HWMonitor like you said and it's saying 206c for temps on my cpu and 48c on my gpu. I'm pretty sure the cpu temp is off, and this is on idle.

The CPU is overheating, and its temperature sensor isn't that accurate because its not build into the CPU but the motherboard.

So I've had an r9 390 xfx for about a month now and nearly every game I play my computer shuts down if I don't max out fan speeds. I can tell it's from overheating because my case can basically make eggs at the point. I don't know whether or not its my cpu (8320 stock fan) or (gpu 390.) Before I would play on an r7 250 with my 8320 and not experince any overheating issues and I'm curious as to whether its just my 390 or is my 390 making my 8320 overheat.

My specs:

FX 8320 @3.5GHz stock fans

R9 390 8GB XFX Dual Dissipation

16GB DDR3 G.Skills RAM

650W Thermaltake psu

Run something like Aida64 or Realtemp during a stress test/benchmark and it will show you temperatures for your case, motherboard, cpu, Ram, and GPU.

If the R9 390 was overheating it would just lower its clock speed. Having your computer shutting down means that the CPU is overheating. Normally the stock cooler would be fine, if a bit noisy, so either you need to redo the thermal paste or clean the cooler of dust.
