is it normal to have a CPU fold faster than a GPU?

Cos I'm having that right now. My CPU is like 6% and the GPU is 0.10% .

MY GPU is a 2GB GTX 770

and CPU is i5-4570.

Also, how much more power consumption will i have if i fold?

Really want to do it but Electric bill is a thing so I might not be able to if it consumes too much power.

Don't judge me, I'm new to folding (literally started 10 minutes ago)

Would this work on laptops?

For the estimate for the GPU to be accurate you'll need to wait a few more minutes as the in my experience, it takes until about 3% completion to have it be anywhere near accurate at all (You can check the actual completion in the advanced control log)

As for the power consumption, it would vary from area to area, but your PC would draw about 400w, and you can work out how much it would cost to have it fold with this formula: Watts it consumes/1000*Price of electricity in your area in kWh*number of hours you're folding a month

Lastly, it would work on laptops, but it's not recommended

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

I've left it on and the GPU is still lagging behind the CPU. EVen at 17%/9%

That'll just depend on the specific work unit your GPU and CPU is working on

The GPU work units are bigger than the CPU work units, so it may well take longer to complete it

You said it''s not recommended for laptops

Would this apply to laptops with dedicated graphics?

Not recommended for laptops as their cooling solutions aren't made for constant 100% everything. So they'll eventually thermal throttle to hell and die.

You might have a really "easy" CPU WU and and really "hard" GPU WU, so this is all fine.

As for laptops, I typically recommend to people to use the Chrome Client. You don't get as many points, but it does power through very small WU's using the CPU only and really helps out. Doesn't creat a lot of heat. As said, most laptops just have a issue dealing with the heat the full client can produce, esp on GPU folding. But, you could always install it and try. If the temps do get to high, just finish your current WU's and then uninstall and go with the Chrome client.

As for power. One CPU and GPU won't make a huge difference. Yes, I will go up by a few dollars a month, but not hugely significant.

Thanks for clarifying it. Looking forward to help scientific research by folding  :)
