Hey all,

I was contemplating the dead patches of my radiator last time I was cleaning it off and I was wondering... Would adding a spacer between the fans and the rad improve the dead spots?

Obviously the spacer would have to be reasonably airtight.

I'm using a 240mm rad.

Do you all think it would help and how much of a gap do you think it would require?

I don't think it's worth it. You would lose in airflow what you would gain in surface area.

Having actually used the spacers you can get i can say its only like a degree or two difference so i wouldnt bother at all, just leave it as it is

It may or may not help, but you can try

The conclusion is basically that shrouds affectivness is rad dependent

on the earlier radiators and high fin density arrays, the spacers did improve a lot

in thermal performance, but with the better fan technology and radiators being

made, today, the spacer market isn't as necessary as before.

Seems like the general consensus is that it's not worth it.

I might give it a try for shits and giggles anyway. I've got a few ideas as to how i might bodge something together.

It seems like the optimal config would be fans pushing and pulling, with spacers either side.

That's gonna be one beefy rad setup. Haha.
