Help me decide between these 2?

fank

ASUS VE278H https://www.asus.com/Monitors/VE278H/

LG 27MP37HQ http://www.lg.com/au/it-monitors/lg-27MP37HQ

I want a 27" monitor which will be good for gaming, and hopefully look great as well

Budget is ~$300 AUD

These are 2 candidates I've found

The ASUS seems like a solid option from I've read but doesn't have the IPS panel that the LG has

I can't see any reviews on the LG however

Any help?

I couldn't find any info on panel type for the ASUS but I did notice it does not have any DVI inputs.
That alone would push me toward the LG. Slower response time, but IPS is always nice to have.

I don't think you need the IPS panel (it is for viewing the screen from different angles) and if you are gaming you are going to be in front of your screen the whole time, also the ASUS has better response time and contrast ratio so it will help with gaming.

ahh youre right i didnt realize how low the contrast ratio on the LG monitor is - I would like IPS though

Neither.

They are 1080p 27"

that's great but my budget is around 300.

but lets put that aside... do you actually have a suggestion to bring?

This* Don't get a 27" 1080p monitor it is mahoosive :) everything looks big, webpages look horrible. I had the Acer XB270HA for about 6 months , had to sell it in the end and got the 24" XB240HA which is sooooooo much better. If your going 27" you want 2560x1440 :)

Hmmm ok. I guess that's something I should consider a bit more

I currently use a 28" 1080p monitor and it's really not that bad to be quite honest.

what about this? (it's delicious 21:9 IPS flavoured, and a fraction cheaper than the 24" weirdly enough)

not yet, but i want to (in fact that's what i think my next monitor is going to be)

admittedly, it's better for driving and sim games. but, aside from a slight frame rate loss from having to drive more pixels, I don't think it would have any negative effects on an FPS game.
