Bad news for anyone expecting extension support in Edge when the first major Windows 10 update happens next month, it's been delayed until 2016.

Windows 10 users who have been waiting patiently to see Microsoft add the promised support for third-party extensions in its Microsoft Edge web browser will have to wait a while longer. The company has now confirmed earlier reports that extensions will not be released for Edge in 2015 as originally scheduled.

Microsoft issued the following statement on the delay:

We're committed to providing customers with a personalized web experience, which is why bringing extensions to Microsoft Edge continues to be a high priority. We're actively working to develop a secure extension model to make the safest and most reliable browser for our customers, and look forward to sharing more in a future Windows 10 update in 2016.

Edge, right now, is pretty feature-incomplete. While I understand the want and need for making sure a feature is as good as possible, seeing something get delayed sucks for those anticipating it and they might not always be... understanding. Microsoft has also stated that Insiders will be among the first to see extension support in Edge in future Windows 10 preview builds, but they did not give a time frame for that.
