I can't get a 960 working with a Z77 mobo

So helping a friend upgrade his GPU and cant get it to boot to windows. The screen just goes black after the BIOS passes. I have updated to the latest BIOS but nothing has helped.

 

Starting to think it might be OS related but not sure.

 

Specs

i5 3570

Asrock Z77 Extreme4-m

840 Evo

Asus Strix GTX 960

Win 10

 

Had a GTX 660 perviously

Remove gpu and clean install drivers with video cable plugged into the mobo.

I got it to work after making it boot into safe mode and then installing the drivers.
