So, i booted to kali linux on a usb on my macbook pro 13 inch 2011 edition with a spinning drive. For some reason i booted it and i cant hear the fans or the drive turn on at ALL... Is this bad? Is my macbooks HD even on? i couldnt hear it spinning when i always can.. ?

is there a way to control fans on linux?

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

yes, it is but  shouldnt matter. The disk works and everything is fine... It just short circuted the battery

apple decided to not use the standard methods to control fan speed. you need to get the drivers (i know windows has them for bootcamp). Not sure about linux having them available.

you can run linux, you just need to port the drivers over to linux. not sure if things have changed, last time i look at this was a few years ago, so there might have been someone who had done the work for you.
