So a gangster by the name of nicki v posted a tweet yesterday with a link to a nicki v compilation someone made for him. It was quite funny because I had this idea in mind for a long time as well. The only thing is that I wanted to do differently is include everyone from LMG.

Soo, here's the link if anyone is interested. I know these aren't the best clips ever but they definitely are some of my favorite moments of Channel Super Fun.

I don't think it's right of you to use footage from LMG.

Why? Since when compilations are bad thing? He's not re uploading whole videos or anything.

Because he's using content produced by LMG that could otherwise be monetized??? It's stealing?? It's plain unethical and immoral? Just because you put in the video "all copyrights go to ___" doesn't make re-uploading content produced by someone else right.

I literally have no problem removing the video but i kinda want a decent explanation to say the least. I mean my initial intent was to test out adobe premiere for the first time since i've never used it before, but boy oh boy is everyone being salty.

This is essentially the same thing as copy+pasting research articles into your school paper and citing the articles in your bibliography. Citations don't excuse stealing of people's content.

You aren't answering my question. Why is this okay then? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVSqJPeFKlQ

That isn't okay either? Just because something is funny to somebody doesn't make it any less wrong to do. (You wouldn't make a 9/11 joke in public, right?)

This is similar to Nintendo case. "You can't upload footage from our games, we made them and bla bla bla..." . There is truth to that and as we can see they can do that. But they are shooting them selfs in the foot.

In this case OP isn't even making money, while some guys would have had made money posting Nintendo content. Even if they had made money, Nintendo would get free advertising. Imagine whole twitch and youtube streaming that new Mario game. People would run to buy Wii U just to play it, because their favorite streamers are playing it.

By the way Linus said that he approves similar videos.

EDIT: There are guys who are watching other people videos and laughing. And they get money for that. Does this one counts as morally wrong? Personally it seems very similar to me.

// guys, don't quote videos please. :)

Exactly! Sheesh. I swear there would probably be people being just as salty on the nicki v compilation if the original creator had shared it on here..It's allowed by the content creators and plus the video that guy sent up there^ isn't even relevant because that has to do with people uploading youtube videos to facebook and getting millions of views. No only is that stealing, but it also doesn't give credit or a source to the original videos.

On the other hand, I'm not only giving credit and links to their channels, but i ALSO have the video so that it's not monetized, which means I won't make any money off the video. Lastly, Linus allows it and Berkel thought that the Berkel compilation was hilarious and even tweeted about it. Case ended.

I think it's important that people realize how crucial it is to respect copyright integrity. It's like when people take really cool science or educational videos from youtube and post them as gifs across social media. Like sure, you can put a watermark or give a source for the content even, but people have already consumed it hence why would most people be bothered to actually go check out the content?

I feel the same stands for compilation videos. They're essentially a few minutes of the "money shots" from scores of videos that have collectively taken creators hundreds of hours of effort and probably thousands of dollars to produce. Satisfied, the unwitting content consumer goes on their merry way to the land of cute cat videos and let's-plays.

Interesting point of view.

But I believe it's exact opposite. People after seeing a gif would be like "From where it is? I wan't to see some more". It happened a lot of times for me too. For example I have seen a single gif of an anime. Only because of that I wen't and watched whole series(It sucked btw). I think same things are happening all over the place.

I'm wondering is there are any studies regarding this topic. :?

There's a really good podcast I listen to that touches on the subject alot. Here are a few excerpts of the opinions of two youtubers on people reuploading their content.

You can listen to the podcast at http://hellointernet.fm

I've seen that video, he's talking about re uploading whole video and it's wrong of course. But that's not really what we are talking about.

OP made  something like community highlight. While it consists small and interesting parts of the whole content it should drive people to see more of it. That's the biggest difference from the videos you are linking to.

If I give person an awesome game for free, would he buy that game? But if I give person a taste of awesome game, he is more likely to buy it.
