Can't enable VGA support

Go to solution Solved by Deddie,

Did you put the DVI to VGA adapter in a DVI-I port and not a DVI-D port on the graphics card?

My friend has an issue where the enable VGA support option in his bios is blanked out therefore blocking signal to his monitor even though he has a dedicated GPU. His mother board is a Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H and he's using an XFX 6870. He has a DVI cable going to his main monitor then a DVI to VGA adaptor going to the secondary monitor (the one with the issue). Any help is greatly appreciated guys  :D

What happens when you use a straight DVI cable to the monitor? Unless it doesn't support the DVI input. Also, does the motherboard have any VGA outputs on it?

The first monitor works fine, but the 2nd one with the dvi to vga adapter doesn't work. The 2nd monitor is only vga, I've been trying to get a new monitor, but funds are tight as I just spent a lot on my new computer.

I don't think using the VGA ports on the motherboard would work, they get disabled the second you plug a dedicated GPU in,

The Motherboard does have a vga output, but like Joshyy said I believe, that they get disabled when you plug in a GPU.

Try another port on your GPU instead of mobo.

That may be true. But...this is to also make sure the adapter itself is functioning.

ah how special I feel... Thanks for that I had them in the same places as before, but I guess I had the mixed up... I really do appreciate all the help.
