Hi guys, so i got some speakers somewhere that belonged to a surround sound home theatre system. i want to make use of them but i don't have a dvd player to connect them to. can i connect them directly to my phone somehow?

The cables are the ones that terminate as open wires, they go into the red and black slots on the DVD player.

You need an audio amp that has connections for the speaker wire

yeah thats why you need an amp, a phones audio circuitry is never going to have enough power to run like bookshelf style speakers at anything close to a reasonable volume
