SLI and crossfire

SLI is for Nvidia and it reguires a bridge (connector) between the 2 3 or 4 cards.

 

Xfire is for AMD and they work with the connectors in the PCI slots. So you don't need an SLI-bridge like you do when using Nvidia GPU's.

Pretty much what the other said - I guess I could add that the original tech was devised by 3DFX :D

Both are technologies which enables you to use the power of 2 or more similar cards. The only difference is that SLI is for Nvidia and CrossfireX is for AMD.

 

SLI still requires a bridge but newer AMD cards don't require bridges. Older AMD cards still requires them tho.
