So I'm being given a small budget for a new PC in the next month or 2, its not much, but I think I have a good build. Could you all double check it and give feedback on if its good enough?

I am mainly looking to game at a decent quality running at least 30 fps, 60 if at all possible, and maybe do a little video editing for my YouTube channel. So if you all could give some feedback, that'd be greatly appreciated ^_^

here's my build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wFFx3C

ok, now that your jaws have dropped after thinking I was making a weak i3 build, here's the real deets

xD

I'm looking at a $5k USD budget, all going to this rig. Primary 2 uses will be gaming (and recording gaming) at top quality, and heavy duty video editing (investing in a 4k camera for cinematography next). From what I've heard so far, its overkill, but I want all bottleneck that are possible for the gaming content gone, if there's an issue, I want to be able to tell the viewer if its the game's fault or the system's. So is there anything you can see that could be optimized, obtained at the same quality but cheaper, etc...? Money saved would just goto a 1440p@144hz second monitor for gaming, and more SSD/HDD.

Thanks for the feedback ^_^

Someone correct me please as I'm not too sure about this. I don't think a 5900RPM drive is fast enough to edit 4k content seeing as Linus had to use a ssd array for his company. You might want to get a 7200rpm drive minimum or several SSDs in raid for the extra performance.

I put this together, I really doubt you'd need to invest 5k.

Unless you're an extremely high end content creator, I really doubt you'd need a $1000 cpu. A 5820k is just as capable of editing 4k video, the only real difference between them would probably be a few minutes buffering speed. If you do need something with more power then a 5930K would suffice.

As for that cpu cooler, the fans on it do suck so i advise replacing them with better ones. Maybe the fractal design venturi fans.

Kept the ram the same.

As for storage I went with a 500gb ssd since the price difference wasn't much. Also a 3tb 7200rpm western digital black drive is better than a 4tb 5900rpm seagate hdd.

A single 980 ti should be all you really need, especially since it's still a very strong gpu.

Kept the case the same.

As for power supply I find xfx to be a better brand.

Don't really know why you want an optical drive, especially an $80 one. I chose one that's cheaper if you insist on having one.

For monitors from what i hear 1440p monitors are better for content creators than 4k monitors.

Keyboard, mouse, etc. Are subjective to your own interests, but there's really know need to pay over $100 for a keyboard.

You could save a bit of money by buying windows 8.1 pro from reddit for $25 and then doing a free install of 10 pro

Linus mainly had to use an ssd array since he had a whole group of people editing 4k footage. I'm pretty sure a 7200rpm will be alright for one person

but, short of costing less, is this build better than the one I made? To me it's basically a matter of, "I know I don't need a sports car that can go 300MPH as I'll never find a road that lets me go over 80, but knowing that it will never be limited by anything thrown at it" is what I am after. Practical vs. enthusiast, I'm going the enthusiast route not because I need to, but because I can. I mean, this $5k isn't outta my pocket, and I'm gunna use every penny I can to deck out this system with as many bells and whistles of top grade quality that I can. And yes, I am wanting to make high end content.

Side note, I need the optical drive as I will be selling out my services of video capture and creation to the locals, so making DVDs and BDs is kinda on the need to have for that.

I went the practical route. Since you aren't paying out of pocket (hard to take that part in your post serious when you say a small budget but then go on to list a 5k build)

I upped the cpu to a 5930K, but I still say there's no real need to need to get a 5960X, especially since at that point you're literally paying around $500 extra just for a few seconds off of rendering.

As for the cooler, at that price point, and with around $700 left it probably would be better off putting that towards a custom water loop for the cpu and overclocking it to 4ghz, as well as water cooling the gpus. (if you do water cool the gpus it would probably be better to buy the nvidia reference models since they'd be cheaper and have better water cooling part compatibility. you could overclock them after)

As for the case I changed it to a corsair 900D for if you do consider going the custom loop route, that case having a huge amount of space to easily fit multiple radiators. (if you were to water cool a cpu and two gpus, and oc. I'd recommend a quad rad at the top of the case or a quad rad in basement)

changed the monitor to a 4k 1440p monitor
