I'm building a gaming pc for a friend of mine and since it's my second build I thought I'd pass it by you guys for final suggestions/opinions :) He wants it to be black on the outside and white on the inside (I'm finding it rather difficult compared to the other way around :P, trying to balance the colorscheme) and Skylake. The only white z170 motherboard I've seen is the XPOWER Titanium, but that's out of the budget range, so I went with the Asus one. For the watercooling, the AiO will fit pretty much any case right? This leaves me with: is the PSU too much overkill (he will do overclocking) and is it worth to spend another 100 to put in the 980 Ti instead of the 980. Here is the build I had in mind: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fsYnD3 that is around his budget ~$1900.

Edit: changed 980 to 980 Ti and case to 750D

Some prices are converted from € to $ so may seem a bit off.

take a look you may like it :P  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sKZtGX

Heh, unfortunately he is pretty set on the white theme inside and over here the lightning is another 100 more expensive :P (I'm converting some prices from  € to $, should've mentioned it).

I switched the GPU to a 980 Ti and the case with a 750D now. Will a 750W PSU suffice for both CPU and GPU overclocking or should I up it to an 850/1000W ?

That ram should be DDR4 right? Looks good otherwise.

Ok :)

I'll pass it by him tomorrow and see what he thinks about it and I'll let you know. As of now the white theme is sort of set in stone so I can't deviate much from that in therms of GPU and motherboard I'm afraid, but I'll see if I can suggest him something else especially since I see it can possibly save quite some money overall. I'm glad I passed by you first ^^

There are lots of white z170 so many I envy skylake builds. The krait and the cut down version of the asus z170 deluxe (forgot what it's called) are both quite cheap tbh. All white builds look best in the Enthoo luxe, corsair 760t and h440 imo

here you go

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/b6YyCJ

Notes: picked the triton because you can swap the liquid, just get some white pastel mayhem (I think that's what its called)

The price is close to £1300 but the price of the 980ti hof isn't there :/ should be able to buy one for like $600 tho?

Couldn't find the white hyperx ssd on the site so I didn't put it in the build but should come close to 1300

So I ran it by him and all of a sudden his mind changed... a lot :P He did some research for himself he said and now he wants an i7, 980 Ti and the MSI Xpower Titanium motherboard which will raise the total cost to even a bit over his upper limit. Not to mention he'll also need an OS, keyboard+mouse and screen which I don't think he took into account when setting the budget.

I read a lot that on haswell the gain of getting an i7 is negligible for gaming, is this still the case for Skylake? I've seen one comparison in which the i7 did like 10-20 FPS better in Witcher 3 and GTA V, but it used an OCed Titan X while other benchmarks seem to give only a little difference.

That Triton looks like a nice option, especially with the white dye. As for the price, the cheapest I can get the HoF here is €785 which is ~$890.

Agreed ^_^ Still waiting on a reply about the case.

$900? I don't know how he'd be able to shave off $300 from that build unless he just gets a 980 or a used 980 ti on eBay

@Overkilled

Yeah I don't think it can be pushed down and still keep the specs. He set €1750 as the budget with a max of €2000, so I made the build in the first post that comes out at just above the €1750 mark, however now he wants to do this. I guess money isn't really an issue anymore :P
