http://pcpartpicker.com/ca/p/w3bc I know you wanted the 7970' date=' however that Twin Frozer III 7950 has a 7970 PCB (bigger VRMS, same ram modules etc), therefore you can literally overclock it to 7970 speeds, and it is, for all intensive purposes, a 7970.[/quote']

Not overclocked though, the core speed is much lower (lower even than a stock 7850 it would seem).

Your build looks fine but, honestly, if he originally asked for an SSD, I'd give him an SSD. They are better and if he is efficient, he won't fill a 120 too quickly.

Could you really add an SSD to that build though? I can't really see where else you could cut. Possibly the motherboard? At the end of the day, the SSD is a luxury, not a necessity.

Also the Samsung 840 comes highly not recommended compared to the superior 830 or 840 pro.

Why is this? I just picked one up on sale, seems to be fine, but I'm wondering what you're saying with this. Can't be that bad, can it?

The Crucial M4 you linked to is oudated. It's reliable, but there are better options

Also, for the graphics, why not cut it down and get a 7870? You'd save ~$100 and for 1080p gaming it's fine

if you are buying a gpu like that

why in the hell are you skimping on the cpu?

-_-

you should get 2500k

idek why people say the 3570k

it sucks

it runs super hot and the 2500k can overclock WAYYYYYY higher

If I had one wish, I would ask for a big enough ass for the whole world to kiss

The Samsung 840 has much lower write speeds.

Essentially:

Samsung 840 Read/Write: 530/130

Samsung 830 Read/Write: 520/400

You can see that the 830 write speeds are like three times better.

Why not cut down and get a 7870? My personal 7950 overclocked to 1100MHz sometimes (often) dips into the low 50s on max settings.

If you want max settings, the 7950 comes minimum, really, for 1080p.

With a 7870, you will get much lower framerate.

If you are going to render videos, you might as well get the 6300. Or the 8350 if you can!

I would still say get 4GB of RAM and just add another 4GB kit when you -can-. It's only like $20, if you find you need it, you can get it!

4gigs is stupid to get

even for gaming it just feels wrong and outdated when it is so cheap

he should just get G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600

If I had one wish, I would ask for a big enough ass for the whole world to kiss

Ideally what I like to do, is to invest in parts that are going to last me a long time - e.g case & psu, that i wont have to upgrade again for some time.

As others have pointed out the AMD build is really not good value for money, you want to be looking at the Intel core series.

Theres also no point in going an aftermarket cooler for that much $$$ just to overclock the AMD, where it will still be slower than an Intel cpu.

As far as SSD's id also recommend sticking with the newer top performing ones.

Just looking at Dim's build suggestion, his is pretty spot on.

Though you could swap out the case/psu and move to a Corsair 500w 80+ and a Fractal Design R4 case, which would be a really nice setup to last for some time - and still come in under budget :)

The 3570K gets an 8.1 on Cinebench while the 2500K gets 7.46, and they both had an increase of 1.5ghz when OCd. Their speed is beside the fact if the newer one already has a better micro-architecture.

The 3570k can go on some CRAZY bundle deal sales that are definitely worth the money. I got a bundle deal for $300.

What'd you get?

Here's the price of the 3570k at a store by my house.

Your best bet would be to ask a friend to buy it and ship it to you or buy it if you ever visit the states.
