Hi there!!

I was looking for a tablet/stylus/software combo for taking notes on school. My objective is to use a tablet as a general notepad for all my subjects, so far I have come with this combo:

-Ipad

-FiftyThree Digital Stylus

-Notes Plus App

I also tried to look for an Andorid tablet, but I dont know much about them, and also I couldn´t find any software better than Notes Plus, which is only available for iOS, so, does anyone has a better combo or knows something on this matter?

You want something with a digitizer -- i.e. something that's designed for a stylus (and has palm recognition). The Galaxy Note 8/10 are decent although the pen is small and the screen is very slippery (so I'd say it's worth it to buy a used one for around $120~). However, I just upgraded to a used Surface Pro 3 for $500 (with a type cover) and it's a far better experience and I plan on selling my note 8 tomorrow for $130~.

Hi there!!

<Snip>

To be honest, I have a surface pro 2 right now, and the thing is a fucking beast man. I know the other guy recommended a surface Pro 3, but IDK what your budget is.

It's really good though, I DO recommend

If the Surface 2 RT (non Pro) stylus experience is even half as good as the SP3 then I'd say try and pick one of those up for probably not all that much more than a Note 8 (assuming you're on a tight budget). While RT/32gb of memory may be very limiting, it's no less limiting than something like a Note 8/any other tablet.

I heard the RT is pretty terrible compared to the Pro...

But obviously I don't have one :P So whomever is interested has gotta decide for themselves I suppose

It seems like I will stick around with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, it looks good, well now to the software, any recommendation?? I have found 4 apps that look just fine, but I cant decide if the apps are worth for the tablet:

-Evernote

-OneNote

-INKredible

-Bloc de notas + (ignore the title, it memo pad +)

I used Papyrus (squid now), and I'm now using OneNote on my Surface....I think I like them both equally (the apps...I greatly prefer the SP3).

If I were you I would look into a used S2 -- if it's even half as good as my SP3 then I'd say it's the better buy over a Note (and is probably similarly priced if you're buying used). If you're buying new, then I'd just get a refurbished S3 (also probably similarly priced).

Ooh, iPad with third party stylus and App.

Yeah, I have done it and still doing it for a year now, but I am planning to upgrade it.

It is great but you are at the MERCY of the developer to make sure the darn app works well with the stylus.

Mine were iPad Air with Adonit Jot Script 2.0 and Goodnotes. It is awesome but I would prefer a PC Tablet with stylus since I get more function and don't have to lug my laptop around both my school and work.

There is Surface 3, Surface Pro 3 and Pro 4. Surface 3 and Surface Pro 4's price might drop once either Surface Pro 4 is released OR Black Friday which it is right around the corner.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, I have tried it and the stylus is good but the apps were a bit lackluster IMO.

None of the note taking apps support OneDrive which I use except OneNotes but it does also lacked few features.

It is insanely awkward to take notes at portrait with that 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio, so I wouldn't recommend it not to mention both their Software and Buttons are announcing as fuck. If you grab it, you have been warned.

There is a cheap PC Tablet called Toshiba Encore 2 Write 8 and 10. Both are decent and it does have weaker specs similar to Surface 3 except the aspect ratio, resolution, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, etc. It is pretty decent just for replacing your spiral notebook or papers and pen. It uses TruPen which it is part of Wacom technology.

Then there is Dell Venue Pro which it is decent and stylus are slowly improving but not the best compare to S-Pen (Samsung), N-Trig (Surface) and Wacom. It is basically a new kid that just move in your neighborhood and want to fit in with the cool kids. :P
