My cousin had this computer and claimed it's broken. The thing apparently turns on and actually loads up windows, but it's extremely slow. Opening chrome took several minutes. When opening task manager the ram usage seems to hover around 88-96% with nothing running.

 

It's specs are:

Athlon X2 4200+

1GB DDR2

GeForce 6150 LE

Vista Home Premium

 

So would this computer still be usable for web browsing if I upgraded the ram?

Well, first of all, IT'S FUCKING VISTA. Also, you can't expect to get anywhere in chrome with 1gb ram. I would reinstall with windows 8 or xp.

with that little RAM your not going to have much luck with anything, especially chrome. When I had vista (don't worry, ive moved on...) it had high RAM usage, and chrome itself uses a lot of RAM. You would need to upgrade the OS and definetly get more RAM, and should see much faster speeds.

Bruh your cousin needs a need laptop or something. Shit if you got the extra RAM toss in their, that thing is on it's last legs.

I have a copy of windows 7 i was going to put on it and was planning to buy 2x2GB DDR2 for $20.

I don't think she's that interested in getting a new computer. It was laying around "broken" for a few years.

Buy DDR2 ram off ebay,

You can get 4GB sticks for $15.

 

Reinstall window and install the LATEST Vista Updates and drivers!

 

This would be fine for a web browsing or text editing machine, not much more!
