What are you going to do?

5820k still beats the 6700k in some benchmarks but the only reason you'll need the X99 platform is for SLI/CF configurations made up of 4 or more GPUs - which is just wasteful and dumb.

What monitor are you running too? A GTX 980 Ti is enough for 1600p gaming while you might be able to play 4k with SLI GTX 980 Ti smoothly.

as for the cpu: do you need single core performance, or multi core performance?

as for the GPU: get a 980ti, whatever cpu option you end up picking. 2x980 isnt worth it, neither is a titan x.

which games specificly? (make a list of your top played ones, and the odd ones out - like minecraft for example, if you're into that)

AFAIK Photoshop doesn't use hyperthreading too well. It only uses it in some processes. You'll be happy with a i5 6600k and a SLI of 980 Ti's if your monitor is 1440p. If it's only 1080p, you can max out everything and hit at least a 100fps in everything with one 980 Ti

Save money and buy smart ;) the greatest of today will be mediocre in 3 years lol

I've fallen trap to that future proofing hubris (see my big PSU that's waiting for another 980 Ti in 2 years).

The 6600k will last a long time. You won't need hyperthreading of the i7. People still rock a 2500k up until now. The 980 Ti will not last a long time. Buy one now and then sell that in 3 years so you have cash and then some to spend on a new graphics card that matches the 980 Ti in its prime,

csgo, league of legends, arma 3, and usually when any new game comes out like battlefront and so on

for cs:go its a defenate win for the 6700k

i dont think it'll matter much for LoL

arma 3.. i'm not so sure, i remember hearing it being very cpu capped, but i dont recall if it was multi-threaded very well.

as for newer games, we never know what the future will bring.

basicly: this is the dealio:

- if your preffered application uses 4 threads or less: 6700k

- if your preffered application uses 6 threads or more: 5820k

either way, make sure you pair it with an SLI motherboard, and get a single fast GPU now, so if you run into fps issues later down the line, its just a matter of dropping in a second GPU.

i've seen a defenate move towards multi-threading in games tho, especially in the triple-A titles.

another thing is well.. skylake is newer, so they support fancy toys like nvme better.

so you say skylake is the way to go i think i might get the i7 because i used to do video editing and i never know when i need to do it again

Not exactly but okay, haha. Go for that i7 and you'll be happy with it for years to come.

ps CS GO (1600p, ULTRA, 2x MSAA) runs at at least 240fps for me. I only have a little 4670k and a single 980 Ti (check my sig)

met shitty setting en zonder shaders zeker....

its specificly when set to english -.o

/s

on a high end system.. you can go past 1000 in some occasions. at that point it actually starts to use a fair bit of gpu usage on a GTX970.

minecraft forge, fastcraft and optinfine help out a decent chunk as well. and theres a mod that improves texture handling i should look into.

then you install 100 mods, and are happy to hit 60fps once your base is fully decked out...
