Thermal Compound

Go to solution Solved by Necrodead,

Most waterblocks tell you to do the 'X' method, but I prefer a line. You may also have to buy new thermal pads for the ram and/or VRM as they usually don't use paste for those and you can't re-use them most times.

So I want to replace the thermal compound on my GPU.  It is an AMD Radeon R9 280x.  I know it won't bring the temps down that much but I still wnat to do it.  Should I just put a line like on a CPU or should i cover it in compound.  Also, please don't put graphics card recommendations, I am planning to get a new one soon.  Thanks. :)

I think the recommended pattern for GPUs is a cross or a cross on top of a diagonal cross because of the larger size of the chip.

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

if you use retarded/autistic/etc to mean stupid please gtfo
