We cant predict the future but if you dont need any m.2 and stuff you should be fine with i5 4560k.

I'm looking for a cpu for my first build. My friend told me to get the 6700k skylake because the i5 4690k i wanted to get would soon be obsolete. I'm not looking forward to paying the price of the skylake so I was wondering if there was other options I could go with or if the i5 will be around for another 2 years I will just go with that.

what is m.2? like some advanced storage system, right?

Yea if you like fast storage... but PCEI storage is another option.
