I am trying to build a portable and powerful PC about the size of a console (or as small as possible).

I put a GTX770 in the video card slot, but I am probably going to get a new 9XXX GPU (whatever I can get in the case power wise)

I AM ONLY USING THIS FOR GAMING!! Cost is secondary to size, but I would like to stay under $1500.  I also have an external soundcard so do not worry about onboard/discreet sound.

Suggestions on this build or a totally different build idea?

Don't get an APU if you aren't going to be using intergrated graphics. I would recommend an 8320/8350 for this build if you are on a budget. If you care about size maybe an ITX build would be better. That case doesn't have a good review, maybe you would want to upgrade that.

The only real thing that comes close to consoles in size are modded cases or (and many will hate me for saying that) the Alienware x51 which can't handle anything better than a gtx 670 (power draw wise)

Ok thank you for the CPU advice, I don't care AMD vs Intel I don't need anything but enough CPU power for games, what would you recommend if size is main concern. I am fine with changing the case, I am just really looking for something in this form factor, any recommendations, I am having trouble finding any.

With that budget you can get a better system than that

you can either go with a FX-83XX or with an i5 and a mATX motherboard

And please don't go with a PSU that comes with the case usually they aren't the best quality

Which i5 would you recommend for gaming only? Also any recommendations on cases, I can't find any that fit this form factor.

Unfortunately that's what I have been finding.  The most promising candidates are the Alienware X51 (good size, only 330W PSU), the iBuyPower Revolt (can get with no GPU for upgrade 500W 80+ platinum, but I am not a huge fan of the look and a bit expensive, still probably best choice), the Digital Storm Bolt (I love the look, but it is a bit expensive and loud, probably second choice), the Falcon Northwest Tiki (Perfect, great look,  450W? PSU, liquid cooled, great support, practically $750 more than the others, still about third because I do have the money and it is soo sexy)

Lian Li PC Q28 is a good case if you care about size.

Its a bit too big. This is about as big as I could go. http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=333&area=en

For this I am worried that it only allows 10 inch GPUs and also I would like more than 450W PSU, but I could still put a 760mini in this or maybe even a shorter 9XXX GPU.

That would be a good choice, I believe you can fit an H40 in there.

Depending on if you want to overclock you can go with

  • i5 3570 (K if you want to overclock)
  • i5 4670 (K if you want to overclock)
