What is BOINC?

Boinc is a collection of various distributed computing projects,
it gives you the opportunity to lend your unused processing
power to do calculations in the name of science and progress!

This can be to help medical science, physics, mathematics,
better understand nature, or pretty much anything you can
find a corresponding project to, it's up to you to decide what
you want your computing horsepower to be used for, this gives
scientists the chance to gather big ammounts of data by giving
them access to hundreds or thousands of computers, all of
this is achieved by running some software on your computer,
there is also software avaliable for smartphones.

IIRC Boinc is a program that manages various distributed computing workloads, such as F@H. I think F@H is now separate because it has become big enough to justify being separate. The principle behind Boinc and F@H are the same, except there are hundreds of projects you can contribute your computing power to using Boinc, whereas F@H is just, well, folding.

Windows - Linux = Folding - Boinc. They are both essentially the same thing, but the first is much more known and easier to use by newcomers than the later.... with the later being better in every single aspect, other than the ones I just mentioned.

Why haven't i thought about this earlier, that is such a good comparison. 

I swear i have seen it before in an older conversation, must have forgotten
