Cable management for video card

Ok, so nothing is broken, but I have a gtx770 gpu which takes a 6+8 power cable. I have PCI-E cables from my corsair ax860 that have the split double end with the 8+8 and I have cables that have 1 8pin input. The cable with the Y end 8+8 sticks out too much and prevents the side panel from fitting into place in my case. I do want to buy a new case but that's another issue. Can I use 2 separate power cables to power my gpu? Kind of a dumb question, but I don't want to melt my pc. Thanks.
