This is sort of audio but maybe more electrical. I have two sources that I want to mix together. One from a Schiit Bifrost and the other from a Fiio D3. Looking a some basic two channel mixers they seem kinda expensive for what they are. Now some of you may cringe at this, but I took 2 rca y-splitter cables. The two lefts to make one left and two rights to make a one right. I then plugged this into my amp. One of the dacs were overloaded. Is this a matter of the dacs having two different output impedances? I looked around at making a two channel mixer. A basic one with no potentiameters in the circuit just needed some resistors. So if I take my y-splitter cables and insert a 10k ohm resister on all of the source places, it should now work right? Also how much does this effect sound? I here that the resisters tend to mess with the sound a bit.

Combing DAC outputs with a Y-splitter. There's a reason they call them "splitters" and not "combiners".

I mean, I guess the idea sounds logical, but to me educating myself before fucking around with $100s worth of equipment seems even more logical.

I did do some further digging and found this, http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-MX400-BEHRINGER-MICROMIX/dp/B000KGYAYQ/

But now the question is why does it need power? That would kind of suggest that is is amping the sound right?

EDIT: And that mixer is mono... err

It just implies there is active circuitry. You can use it, but you will need two splitters.
