Hey guys, I was in the market for buying a CPU to finish of my build. I did a little background research on buying CPU's & I came to the conclusion that a G3258 will be just fine for playing low demanding games (CounterStrike) only. Was this a right decision (CS is tilted more to CPU than GPU)

Thanks for the help guys.

What's your budget?

It'll do pretty well anyway, but...

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

Wow, so fast!

Alright to answer all the questions, these are my purchased parts:

Asus Z97-A

AMD Sapphire R9 380

SeaSonic G-550 W PSU

WD Black 1TB

WD Caviar Green 1.5TB

Intel G3258

Kingston Hyper X 8GB (1866)

Also, will the PSU Wattage be enough to OC the CPU to a decent GHz (lets say 4.2)

Is the whole build on its own able to run due to the power supply, or should a higher wattage be considered?

Thanks!

Well its going to bottleneck the 380 in csgo and other cpu heavy games. But you got all nice parts and you can just swap the cpu for an i5 in the future.

the G3258 is actually one of the better picks for CS:GO, because of source potato only using two cores, and the pentium's great overclocking headroom even on only the stock cooler.

Question about ram? Why get 1866mhz ram? A g3258 can only use up to 1333mhz?

Sorry for the late reply

Really? I never knew. Well the chosen ram was on sale, and here in Australia, RAM prices, most notably 1866 mhz, skyrocket, so when I saw the original price of this ram @ $130.00 AUD I jumped on it!

EDIT

I was just reading a forum now and it stated that I can override the 1333 mhz status of the G3258 by changing the XMP status in the MOBO, is this the case?

if you do xmp then yes you can get higher then 1333mhz but you must overclock the cpu as well to get it to work. I had my g3258 at 4.6ghz on 1600mhz ram.

Ahh I see, can you link me to any tutorials to do so?

Ram speed allowances are up to the mobo, not the CPU. You can overclock your cpu independent of your ram, as long as you are using the CPU multi and not BCLCK

G3258 V 860k (Spoiler: G3258 wins)
