Its more along the lines of LEDs were created by someone, others saw it and then started making their own look the same, and more and more places started making their own. Some factories make everything in house, meaning everything on that product is created by them, while others will do a bit and also by parts and add them to their product.

What most people don't realise is that many LED strips are completely different but look the same. I have worked with many factories that make LED strips over the years and I can honestly say some are complete shit while others are amazing.
