Hi! I'm planning on starting a skylake build, and I'm on a budget ($500~$600 without graphics card). I was thinking of going for B150 motherboards, to cut down on price. Is this ok? Or am I missing out on not going for the H170 motherboards? I don't plan to OC btw.

I plan to buy my graphics card separately (r9 390), down the line, so as not to be too heavy on the wallet. Please help me guys, thanks!

Things I've set my sights on:

Processor: i5-6500

Motherboard: MSI B150 (?) or Gigabyte H170 gaming 3

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX ddr4 8gb 2400

SSD: Crucial BX-100 250GB (I have an old laptop drive I can reuse for mass storage)

PSU: Seasonic M12II-520

Case: please help?

Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome, thanks!

You could just go with this build, and upgrade the CPU later if it's really holding you back, you'll be able to game much better in the mean time

I have to agree with everyone above. Your budget is too low for a good skylake build. Haswell processors are still pretty good and I don't think you'll be disappointed with them. :)

Hi! I already have a separate budget for video card - either 970 or 390. So my $600 budget was for the other parts of the build :D

So your budget is 900-1000?

The build is meant for a 2nd GPU down the line, so you could get it down with a less expensive motherboard and PSU

Are there cheaper ddr4 ram modules?

Also, what are your thoughts on 380 crossfire? i was thinking about getting one for now, then adding down the line. Will it be a better fit?

Are there cheaper ddr4 ram modules?

Just get the 390, or maybe 380X if that drops soon

most likely 2133mhz RAM is going to be cheaper, RAM speed doesn't matter for much of anything

What about directX 12? is this supported at all?

That would be another reason to go AMD
